Research Grant to promote the Social Innovation Project

In the Graduate Program for Social ICT Global Creative Leaders (GCL), GCL course student launch the social innovation project to extend it to become his doctoral thesis. All doctoral dissertation research grants, e.g. competitive external funds, university’s internal competitive funding programs, etc. will be acquired with the aid of the student’s supervisor and/or Project Incubation Machinery (PIM) to cover costs of launching the Social Innovation Project.

Following is a list of research grants for the GCL students to make application, as a reference. The descriptions are not intended to be complete or to cover all cases. We will continue to enrich the content in due course to provide more updated information.

The KDDI Foundation contributes to harmonious development of the world by awarding grants in a wide range of areas, e.g. Law, Politics, Economics, Social Systems, Culture, etc. related to telecommunications. In particular, creative research in new fields, research conducted by young researchers, international joint research, and interdisciplinary research are given higher priority. The grant per each research proposal is for 1~3 years and maximum ¥3 million.

◎ The Telecommunications Advancement Foundation

Application Period: Wednesday, November 1 through Thursday, November 30, 2017 <closed>

The Telecommunications Advancement Foundation solicits grant applications from start-up researchers (young researchers or individuals who have changed their career to become researcher) as well as researcher who have returned from life events (e.g. childbirth, childcare and nursing care). The amount of grant per each research proposal is ¥0.3 million ~ ¥1.5 million (Average: ¥0.9 million). Maximum amount of grant is not related to the results of acquisition of other grants. We expect to continuously take up the challenge of developing new things. This grant program is available to doctoral students, individual researchers, as well as cooperative research groups or legal entities.

◎ National Bioscience Database Center(NBDC):Database Integration Coordination Program (Data Integration and Analysis Trial)
Application Period: Wednesday, December 24 (JST 14:00) through Thursday, March 12, 2015 (JST 14:00 ) <closed>

“Database Integration Coordination Program” awards grants for research and development in order to use the existing database (or, to be integrated) in new projects or new fields, or to develop some tools to access and use the database, from the database user’s perspective.
Researcher will be able to access a variety of existing life science DBs as well as DBs created as part of the funding programs from NBDC portal website. NBDC believe that this, in turn, will enhance data sharing within the Japanese life science research community on a more extensive scale.
The grant per each research proposal is for maximum 10 months and is up to ¥1 million. Although this year’s recruitment is closed, but there is a high likelihood that application accepted for the next round of invitation. This will be announced in due course.

2) Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) has established National Bioscience Database Center (NBDC) to promote the integration of databases in life science field on April 1, 2011. NBDC has four main activities: developing strategy for life science database integration, building and operating a portal site, R&D of fundamental technology to integrate databases, and promotion of integration of bioscience databases. NBDC will maximize the value of databases by the integration of bioscience databases through these activities. NBDC’s goal is to become a database center that can contribute to research and development in the bioscience field not only in Japan but also in the world.

 

◎ Leave a Nest Co., Ltd.
Leave a Nest research grant is a private research funding in order to revitalize the collaboration between industry and academia. The grant will accept entries for various themes four times a year, which aims to foster young researchers such as master course students, doctoral course students and post-doctoral researchers.
The Leave a Nest -Yasukawa Corporation Automation Technologies research grant is now accepting applications by Thursday, April 30, 2015 (JST 24:00). Current research theme is: transition from manual to automatic, e.g. technologies related to vision, force sensor, Hand, etc. as well as control algorithms.

Researchers in the field of Automation and other related disciplines are mainly invited. (Regardless of whether they have a doctoral degree or not)

The grant per each research proposal is ¥0.5 million.
